Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Perth

Our parish offers regular Orthodox liturgical services according to the ancient traditions of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. These services help the faithful grow spiritually through prayer, worship, and participation in the sacramental life of the Church.

Divine Liturgy

The Divine Liturgy is the central service of the Orthodox Church. During this sacred service the faithful gather to worship God, hear the Holy Gospel, and receive the Holy Eucharist — the Body and Blood of Christ. The Divine Liturgy is usually celebrated on Sundays and major feast days.

Matins 

Matins is the traditional morning prayer service of the Orthodox Church. It prepares the faithful spiritually for the Divine Liturgy through psalms, hymns, and readings from the Holy Scriptures.

Vespers

Vespers is the evening prayer service that begins the liturgical day in the Orthodox tradition. It includes psalms, prayers, and hymns that give thanks to God for the day and prepare the faithful for the coming feast or Sunday.

Akathist Service

An Akathist is a special devotional service consisting of hymns and prayers dedicated to our Lord Jesus Christ, the Mother of God, or the saints. The faithful remain standing during this service as a sign of reverence and devotion.

Sacraments (Holy Mysteries)

The Orthodox Church celebrates seven Holy Mysteries (Sacraments) through which the grace of God is given to the faithful:

Baptism

Through Baptism a person is spiritually reborn and becomes a member of the Church.

Chrismation

Chrismation follows Baptism and is the sacrament through which the newly baptized receives the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Holy Eucharist

In the Divine Liturgy the faithful receive Holy Communion — the Body and Blood of Christ — for the forgiveness of sins and eternal life.

Confession

Through repentance and confession of sins the faithful receive God’s forgiveness and spiritual healing.

Marriage

The Sacrament of Marriage blesses the union of a man and a woman and sanctifies family life in Christ.

Holy Unction

The Sacrament of Holy Unction is a prayer for healing of soul and body, usually performed for those who are ill.

Ordination

Through ordination the Church calls and blesses men to serve as deacons, priests, and bishops.

Memorial Services (Panakhyda)

Panakhyda is a prayer service for the repose of the souls of the departed. The Church remembers the faithful who have fallen asleep in the hope of the Resurrection and prays for their eternal rest.

Божественна Літургія

Божественна Літургія є центральним богослужінням Православної Церкви. Під час цього святого богослужіння вірні збираються для молитви, слухають Святе Євангеліє та причащаються Святих Тіла і Крові Христових. Зазвичай Літургія звершується в неділі та великі свята.

Утреня

Утреня є ранковим богослужінням Православної Церкви. Вона готує вірних до Божественної Літургії через псалми, церковні піснеспіви та читання Святого Письма.

Вечірня

Вечірня — це вечірнє богослужіння, яким у православній традиції розпочинається новий літургійний день. У ньому звучать псалми, молитви та гімни подяки Богові за прожитий день.

Акафіст

Акафіст — це особливе молитовне богослужіння, яке складається з піснеспівів та молитов на честь Господа Ісуса Христа, Пресвятої Богородиці або святих. Під час акафіста вірні стоять як знак пошани та молитви.

Таїнства

Православна Церква має сім святих Таїнств, через які подається Божа благодать:

Хрещення

Через Таїнство Хрещення людина духовно народжується і стає членом Церкви.

Миропомазання

Миропомазання звершується після Хрещення і через нього новоохрещений отримує дар Святого Духа.

Причастя

У Божественній Літургії вірні приймають Святе Причастя — Тіло і Кров Христові — на відпущення гріхів і життя вічне.

Сповідь

Через щире покаяння і сповідь людина отримує прощення гріхів та духовне зцілення.

Шлюб

Таїнство Шлюбу благословляє союз чоловіка і жінки та освячує сімейне життя у Христі.

Соборування

Таїнство Соборування — це молитва Церкви за зцілення душі і тіла людини.

Священство

Через Таїнство Священства Церква рукополагає дияконів, священників та єпископів на служіння.

Панахида

Панахида — це заупокійне богослужіння, під час якого Церква молиться за упокій душ спочилих та просить для них вічного спокою.
