The Role of the Parish Committee in the Life of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker Church

A parish is more than a building and more than a priest. It is a living Christian community in which every person has a place and a calling. Among the most important ministries within the parish is the Parish Committee, elected by the members of our community. The Committee’s work combines administrative responsibility, service to others, and support for the priest in his pastoral mission.

From the apostolic era to the present day, the Orthodox tradition teaches that the Body of Christ is built up through many different gifts and ministries (1 Corinthians 12:4–7), all working together “for the building up of the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12).
The Parish Committee is the body that organizes the earthly and practical matters of parish life, allowing the spiritual life of the church to be carried out with dignity, peace, and in accordance with the canons of the Orthodox Church.

In the Orthodox understanding, the priest is responsible for the spiritual and liturgical life of the parish, while the Committee oversees administrative and practical matters.
Together they form one team, serving God and His people.

Everyone Can Help

The Parish Committee is not only a group of elected individuals. It is a ministry that requires prayer, support, and participation from the entire community.

We invite all parishioners to:

  • attend services and pray together,

  • help with cleaning and preparing meals,

  • assist during feasts and parish events,

  • support community initiatives,

  • offer ideas, skills, and practical help,

  • become members of UOCWA and take an active role in parish life.

Together we build a vibrant, strong, welcoming, and loving spiritual family. May the Lord bless everyone who serves for the good of our community!
