Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Our Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker Parish in Perth is the fruit of the faith, sacrifice, and dedicated efforts of many generations of Ukrainians in Western Australia who united around the Church and passed this spiritual heritage on to us. It is thanks to those who did not remain on the sidelines, but accepted responsibility for the life of the Church, that churches were built, communities were established, and our faith, traditions, and spiritual heritage were preserved far from our native homeland.

Today, we appeal to all our parishioners to renew their membership for the current year, and to those who are not yet members of the parish, to join our church family as full members of the community.

Many of us consider ourselves part of the Church through participation in the Divine Services, the Holy Mysteries (Sacraments), and by attending church on the great feasts such as the Nativity of Christ and the Resurrection of Christ (Pascha). This is indeed an important part of our spiritual life. However, it was membership, sacrifice, and the hard work of generations of Ukrainians in Western Australia that made it possible to preserve our Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker Church and pass it on to future generations.

Membership is not a formality, nor is it joining an exclusive club. It is an opportunity to participate in parish general meetings, vote on important matters concerning the life of the community, share your ideas and suggestions, and help determine the future direction of our parish.

Our Ukrainian Orthodox tradition teaches us the principle of conciliarity (sobornist) — where clergy and laity work together for the glory of God, the good of the community, and the building up of Christ’s Church. Each of us is called not merely to be an observer, but an active participant in this shared ministry.

In a world that is becoming increasingly indifferent to Christian values, we are called to unite more closely around Christ, support one another, and strengthen our parish for future generations.

May each of us remember the words of the Holy Apostle Paul:

“To equip the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the Body of Christ.” (Ephesians 4:12)

We invite you to renew your membership or join our parish family and take part in building and supporting our community. Membership applications and renewals can be completed online through the “Become a Member” button on our website (please note that online payments incur processing fees), or by making a direct bank transfer and notifying us via our official email address at st.nicholas.uoc.of.wa@gmail.com, or by visiting the church in person and completing an application form at the candle stand.

Membership in our parish community is open not only to residents of Western Australia, but also to Orthodox faithful living in other Australian states and overseas. We encourage you to review the available membership categories and application options in the Membership section of our website.

Together we pray. Together we serve. Together we build the future of our parish and the Church of Christ.

With God’s blessings,

Fr Vasyl Olevych
